چکیده

ABSTRACT: Spontaneous and experimental poisoning by Tephrosia cinerea in the northeastern semiarid region of Brazil has only been described sheep. Pathologically, such leads to ascites centrilobular liver fibrosis. However, these effects require an study goats. This aimed determine goats’ susceptibility ingestion T. minimum toxic dose, describing main clinical anatomopathological findings. Poisoning was reproduced experimentally one sheep that received 10g/kg ground plant two goats, first receiving a dose 5g/kg second plant. The presented abdominal distension 34 days after beginning plant, developing sternal decubitus, breathing difficulty, opisthotonos, mandibular trismus, salivation, dysphagia, vocalization, pedaling movements on 50th day experiment. Fluid accumulation observed cavity via necropsy, with irregular, slightly whitish capsular surface. Histologically, lesions were moderate fibrosis, marked sinusoidal distension, accompanied hemorrhage, sometimes forming bridges between regions, associated dissociation hepatocyte cords. There discrete Alzheimer’s type II astrocytes gray matter occipital cortex nervous system. Goat 2 showed apathy, drowsiness, weight loss; 62th day, lateral decubitus evolved rotation neck towards flank. At edema face dewlap, slight liquid; yellowish material cavity. blackened areas surface liver. mild fibrosis cords vacuolar degeneration cytoplasm. 1 no signs; at multifocal diffuse intracytoplasmic hepatocytes detected. picture findings differ species, proving lower goats (compared sheep), differences pathogenesis epidemiological aspects poisoning.

Genetic susceptibility to lead poisoning.

Major strides have been taken in the regulation of lead intoxication in the general population, but studies using genetic markers of susceptibility to environmental toxicants raise the question of whether genes can make certain individuals more vulnerable to environmental toxins such as lead. At least three polymorphic genes have been identified that potentially can influence the bioaccumulatio...

Spontaneous poisoning by Trema micrantha (Ulmaceae) in goats

Hepatotoxic plants are important cause of economical losses in farm animals in Brazil. This report concerns an outbreak of acute hepatic toxicosis, in which seven goats died after consumption of green leaves from a felled Trema micrantha tree. Two of these animals were necropsied and several tissues were processed for histological examination. Main histological finding was observed in the liver...

Cerebellar Ataxia Suspected to Be Caused by Oxytropis glabra Poisoning in Western Mongolian Goats

In the last five years in western Mongolia, a neurological disorder and resultant economic loss have developed in goats, sheep, cattle and horses: association of the disease with ingestion of Oxytropis glabra, a toxic plant, was suggested. Affected goats showed neurological signs, including ataxia, incoordination, hind limb paresis, fine head tremor and nystagmus. Three goats, one with moderate...

Control of Feral Goats by Poisoning with Compound 1080 on Natural Vegetation Baits and by Shooting

The effectiveness of poisoning feral goats (Capra hircus L.) with Compound 1080 on natural vegetation baits was tested and compared with a hunting campaign. Both control methods probably killed over 90% of the goats in treatment blocks of 1200 ha, but the poisoning method required less skill than hunting.
